PROFESSOR ABDALLAH RAWEH APPOINTED TO SENIOR LEADERSHIP ROLES WITHIN THE GOLDEN LION

Prestigious appointments in international relations and medicine conferred upon the internationally renowned cardiac surgeon

Venice, 19 August 2026 – Professor Abdallah Raweh, an internationally renowned cardiac surgeon, academic and philanthropist, has officially joined the senior leadership of the Golden Lion following the conferral of three prestigious appointments in recognition of his outstanding scientific, professional and humanitarian career.

Having consulted the members of the Committee of the Venice International Grand Prix and the Executive Committee of the Golden Lion , Professor Abdallah Raweh has been appointed:

• President of the Golden Lion for International Institutions;
• Vice-President of the Golden Lion for Medicine;
• Member of the Golden Lion Committee.

These appointments recognise Professor Raweh’s exceptional contribution to cardiac surgery, scientific research, medical education and international healthcare cooperation, as well as his unwavering humanitarian commitment to supporting society’s most vulnerable people.

A recognised pioneer in off-pump coronary artery surgery and minimally invasive cardiac procedures, Professor Raweh has devoted more than thirty years of his professional life to advancing cardiovascular medicine.

Alongside his clinical work, he has maintained a strong commitment to scientific research, the education of new generations of specialists and the promotion of healthcare models founded on excellence, patient safety and person-centred care.

His appointment as President of the Golden Lion for International Institutions will enable him to place his extensive experience and international network at the service of the organisation, contributing to the development of new partnerships with universities, hospitals, public institutions, scientific organisations and healthcare bodies across different countries.

His role as Vice-President of the Golden Lion for Medicine recognises his distinguished scientific and professional expertise and entrusts him with a leading role in promoting research, prevention, specialist education and excellence in healthcare.

Alongside his distinguished professional and academic career, Professor Raweh has also been recognised for his profound humanitarian commitment.

Through numerous paediatric cardiac surgery missions carried out free of charge in the Middle East, North Africa and other parts of the African continent, he has placed his expertise at the service of children suffering from serious heart conditions and congenital cardiac abnormalities, providing them with specialist care and renewed hope for life.

His work is inspired by the values of human dignity, solidarity, fraternity and service to others. It reflects a vision in which medicine is not merely a matter of science and expertise, but also a moral responsibility and a genuine mission in the service of life.
